Sri Bestari Private School: Primary

Primary School Curriculum

Sri Bestari Private School Kuala Lumpur offers Malaysian National KSSR Curriculum at Primary following the Ministry of Education programme. The aim of KSSR (Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah) is to equip learners with 21st Century skills with the Higher Order Thinking Skills that helps mold leaders for tomorrow.

Learners follow the curriculum for six years from Year 1 up to Year Six before progressing to secondary education. The aims of our primary level education are to equip learners to be multilingual, have sound Science knowledge and inquisitive approach, Mathematical skills together with an understanding of Geography, History, have an appreciation for the Arts and strong Civic and Moral grounding inline with the aspirations of the National Philosophy of Education.

Today with the advent of the Industrial Revolution 4.0 where Artificial Intelligence, Programming, Data Analytics, Robotics and Drone Technology is becoming more prominent all over the world, it is important that STEM education is given some prominence. As the Ministry of Education embarked on a proper approach to STEM, Sri Bestari Private School Kuala Lumpur has made a 3 year head start when STEM Modules were introduced from Primary Year 1 right up to Form 5.

All students will have to choose one additional language besides Bahasa Malaysia and English language in  Chinese, French, Japanese or Korean.

Sri Bestari Private School Kuala Lumpur has received approval from the Ministry of Education as a Dual Language Programme DLP school where Mathematics and Science are taught in English. As our students are very comfortable conversing in English and being a DLP approved school many additional subjects that are in English can be introduced. For instance STEM-CS, World Mathematics and World Science are now part of the subjects at Primary.

Students can also choose to sit for the New South Wales Examination NSWE and the Cambridge Checkpoint 1 Examination which are of course all conducted in English. These are additional options a student can choose besides the school based assessments and examinations which take place every Mid-Semester and End-Semester.

Students of Year 4-6 are also required to sit for the Ujian Akhir Sesi Akademik UASA by Lembaga Peperiksaan Malaysia.

Primary School Examinations

Every Semester there is a Mid-Semester Assessment as well as an End-Semester Examination. Report Cards are issued for each Assessment and Examination where parents will meet the teachers to discuss their child’s achievement and progress. Therefore, there are 3 formal assessments/examinations all students will have to sit beside the school-based assessments, projects and the physical health assessment termed SEGAK.

Starting from 2022, the Ministry of Education has introduced the Ujian Akhir Sesi Akademik UASA for Year 1 to Year 6 covering all subjects. This examination is set by the Lembaga Peperiksaan Malaysia and conducted at the end of the Second Semester and is taken as the Year End-Semester Examination. However, there are some subjects that are not covered under UASA such as STEM where the school will conduct their own Examination as well to ensure all subjects studied are properly assessed.

Cambridge Checkpoint 1 Examination

Marked By Cambridge Assessment

The Cambridge Checkpoint 1 Examination is an optional exam and is for students who are in Year 6. Cambridge Checkpoint tests have been designed to assess learners at a certain age or level. The subjects tested are for English as a Second Language, Mathematics and Science. The test provides valuable feedback on the candidates’ strengths and weaknesses before they progress on to the next stage.

The test papers are marked by Cambridge Assessment and it provides the schools with an external international benchmark that helps us evaluate learners’ performance. Each learner receives a statement of achievement and a diagnostic test performance feedback report.

For students who are keen to sit for the Cambridge Checkpoint 1 Examination, preparatory after school classes are conducted starting from Year 5. There are dedicated assessments students will have to sit for and separate report cards are issued for all students by the school.

New South Wales Examination

The New South Wales NSWE Examination papers are prepared and marked based on the Australian curriculum. It is continuously promoted as a standards-referenced approach to assessing and reporting student achievement.

The NSWE Examination is open to all students from Primary Year 3 right up to Secondary Form 5. The subjects include are Mathematics, Science, English and Computer Skills.
