PRIVATE PRIMARY

From the Desk of the Head of Primary

2018 will be the school year of setting and reaching attainable goals, working harder and smarter and taking our school and student achievement to the next level of SUCCESS. We are dedicated to apply the student-centered approaches that promote academic excellence through an enriched, rigorous inter-disciplinary curriculum. To ensure every child reaches his/her fullest academic potential, we need the parents’ support and co-operation. We look forward to work with you, our parents and the members of the community to provide high-quality education that your child deserves.

This year, our pupils can look forward to a highly intensive and challenging academic program that will push them to work beyond their limits. With the continuity of DLP program, World Maths and World Science in our time table, After School Chinese Language Program, Introducing Korean Language as one of the foreign languages and Cambridge Checkpoint Examination for Year 6 pupils, I really hope that all our pupils will take this opportunities to get the benefits from our new programs. Besides that, our goal is to ensure that our pupils will become future critical thinkers, active problem-solvers and inquisitive readers. We do all of these to prepare them for the demands of the real-world so they may become productive citizens, become our future leaders, and contribute and/or give back something positive to the community.

I look forward to work with all the staff and parents to pushing our young generation towards academic heights. On behalf of the primary school, I want to welcome all of you and to thank you for being a part of Bestari Primary School community where SUCCESS IS NOT AN OPTION.. BUT AN EXPECTATION. We are truly on the path to SUCCESS.

Cambridge Checkpoint Examination

Cambridge Primary Checkpoint tests have been designed to assess learners at the end of Cambridge Primary. They are available in English, English as a second language, mathematics and science, and give valuable feedback on learners’ strengths and weaknesses before they progress to the next stage of education. The tests are marked in Cambridge and provide schools with an external international benchmark for learner performance. Each learner receives a statement of achievement and a diagnostic feedback report, giving schools detailed information and parents extra trust in the feedback they receive. The tests cover all major areas of learning in the Cambridge Primary curriculum frameworks for English, English as a second language, mathematics and science.

New South Wales Examination

The NSWE Examination is open to all students from primary Standard 3 through to Secondary Form 5. The subjects that are included are Mathematics, Science, English and Computer Skills. Students are not allowed to opt for individual subjects.

International Books for English, World Maths & World Science

The primary school uses the Cambridge University Press Global Primary books to complement the books that have been used under the national curriculum. The Science book uses an enquiry-based approach to learning, engaging pupils in the lesson by asking questions that make them think out of the box and to expose them to activities that encourage them to explore and practice. All books have beautiful illustrations and diagrams in the write-in pupil’s book to help them explore and understand better the science concept for every topic. All books also contain activities specifically designed to make content accessible for all levels.

Cambridge University Press Primary Maths is a complete maths course that uses a problem solving approach to learn maths, engaging pupils in the lesson by asking questions that make pupils think and activities that encourage them to explore and practice. It also encourages fun and collaborative group work in order to instill the pupils’ interest in mathematics.

To meet the challenges in the future, pupils need to develop their facilities with both conversational and academic English. From the earliest level, Cambridge Global English addresses both these competencies. Cambridge Global English presents authentic listening and reading text, writing tasks and culminating unit projects. To develop the best skill in listening, speaking, writing and reading pupils need to be successful in using authentic English language classroom materials.

Mandarin After School Programme

In Malaysia, the command of English and Bahasa Melayu are so essential in day to day usage. Not forgetting the acquisition of the Chinese Language or Mandarin as an important language for business and trade within the Chinese community and in particular China, the largest economy in the world. There is a fervent effort all over the world for the young to master Mandarin in anticipation of the numerous business and career opportunities that awaits those who have a command in Mandarin. This is clearly evident by the number of non-Chinese whom have enrolled their children into Chinese National type schools or Chinese Independent Schools in the country in the hope that their children will not only master the language but understand the cultural and thinking aspect of the Chinese community and in turn perhaps their perception and the way they do business.

Sri Bestari Private School in responding to the call from the community in providing the balance between the acquisition of English, Bahasa Melayu as well as the push towards mastering Mandarin, our Kindergarten and Primary school have aptly responded. At Kindergarten, a specific class have been assigned to use Mandarin as the language for instruction where students are prepared to be able to assimilate into Primary school with a strong Mandarin focus. At Sri Bestari Private Primary school, from Standard 1 to Standard 6 students have an option between Mandarin, French, Korean and Japanese as an additional foreign language. For students who select Mandarin, additional and supplementary classes will be provided after school hours to prepare students for the Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi (HSK) examination. Therefore, besides the internal Mandarin school examinations, students will be able to sit for the HSK as well as UPSR Mandarin paper and with this intensive focus on the mastering of all 3 languages i.e. English, Bahasa Melayu and Mandarin, students will be rest assured a strong command of these languages going into Secondary school at Form 1.

HSK - Chinese Proficiency Test

Provide a platform for the learners to access their ability upon completing every level.
Consist of 6 levels HSK writing test and 3 levels HSKK speaking test.
Serves as an internationally recognise benchmark to adult learners for academic pursuit and working needs.

After School Preparatory Classes

Prep Class is Sri Bestari’s interactive study group programme which allows pupil to further develop their knowledge. Its an excellent way to “brush-up” on skills, develop a nurturing mentor relationship with their teacher and peer, and provides more interaction than if the pupil only rely on the self-study method.

Classes will be carried out from Monday to Friday during school days only as an after school day care service for primary pupil. Homework guidance, Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) teaching & learning, indoor & outdoor games / activities, afternoon tea are part of the activities.

Inquiry Based Science Education (IBSE) Teaching Approach

Sri Bestari is 1 of only 5 schools in Malaysia (the only Private School) approved by MOE and Academy of Science Malaysia to implement this globally recognised “La main à la pâte” inquiry based teaching approach for science into the daily national curriculum classes.

IBSE approaches focus on student inquiry as the driving force for learning. Teaching is organised around student’s questions and problems in a highly student-centred inquiry process. In IBSE, students learn through inquiry rather than by teachers presenting content knowledge.

Students progressively develope key ideas through learning how to investigate, build their knowledge and understanding of the world around. They will use skills employed by scientists such as raising questions, collecting data, reasoning and reviewing evidence in the light of what is already known, drawing conclusions and discussing results. This learning process is all supported by an inquiry-based pedagogy, where pedagogy is taken to mean not only the act of teaching but also its underpinning justifications.
